a house becomes a home...
this new home is stunning!
and the young family that lives here is ready to have a stunning garden! let's see what we can do...
and the young family that lives here is ready to have a stunning garden! let's see what we can do...
first things first...
the current space allocated for the garden ended at the edge of the home...we'll widen the front garden and add a garden to the left of the gate...that will better define the space and in time will provide a nice balance to the 2-car garage on the other side of the property
we'll also deepen the garden to the left of the front door to better accommodate a variety of plantings, creating a gracious abundant garden...

now for the fun part...
new construction means hard, compacted, clay soil...that means getting out the tiller and amending the existing clay with compost...it's not the most fun job in the world, but it does allow you to work some heavy machinery and feel like a tough guy!
once your macho-mamma work out is done, the fun really begins...off to the local nursery...

otto, meet richard...
the back row is otto luyken cherry laurels...an evergreen that will stay about 3-4 feet tall
in front of that is the little richard glossy abelia...a semi-evergreen that gets soft pink blossoms for much of the summer, it too stays small-ish
the deepening of the bed will allow us to still have perennials in front of the foundation plantings, to better create that "cascade" that is so pleasing...

otto and richard, meet ann...
the blooming tree is an ann magnolia, it's currently in bloom and is so pretty!
Voila, c'est finis...
nothing provides that finished touch the way a lush and full container does...
