A tossed salad...
No offense, but the contractor that installed this garden was c-r-a-z-y !
Too many plants placed in crazy places!
Its okay though because we are going to fix it...

A Garden Makeover...
This house has a lovely flagstone walkway and porch...the problem? access!
We'll move the obstructing plantings to the fence line and open up the entrance way so the kiddies can come and go easily...Cocktails on the porch anyone?

A Clear Welcome!
Moving the existing plantings made room for more grass and better defined the entrance and front door...
Re-purposed plantings...
Never one to throw useful things away, we used the removed plantings to create more garden spaces...
The Golden Cypress shrubs were moved to the left-side of the front yard. I really like their chartreuse color against the color of the house. They also help to create a garden that embraces the house...a concept I am quite fond of!
The azaleas were moved out back to compliment an existing and very grand rhododendrun...they will create quite a display of color in May/June!
The arborvitae that used to flank the front door (UGH!) were relocated along the side of the house...in time they will provide a nice bit of privacy.
The yard also offered lots of variegated liriope which I used as a repeating element to provide a sense of continuity.
I am thrilled with this project and looking forward to watching its seasonal evolution...it also happens to be the view from my kitchen window :)
