how to look 50 years younger in 5 days or less...
think it can't be done? stay tuned for this amazing offer...
day one...
i guess my infomercial is a bit deceiving...i did not remove the overgrown shrubs, a team of guys with proper equipment did...but still...this is going to be an AMAZING transformation!
day one i was surprised to find the tree crew's trailer parked in the bay window garden...guess i won't be working in that space today...
instead, i spent my time around the lamp post and in front of the front porch...

i weeded and pruned the juniper and unearthed dozens and dozens of cobblestones! i love finding goodies like that...i decided to use them to "terrace" the front garden a bit, especially since the black plastic edging was already there to divide the garden...the lower area will continue to be spreading juniper and the area above it will be spreading vinca, variegated liriope and perhaps some blooming perennials...
tomorrow i'll plant and mulch around the lamp post and hopefully begin working on the bay window side garden...hello, tree guys? ah, you left your trailer? hello?...

day two...
while i was finishing planting around the japanese maple, the trees guys showed up to move the trailer...nice timing!
so...after planting and mulching on the left side, i was able to begin some prep work on the right side...i spent time grading and leveling the existing soil...ugh, surprise surprise, at some point rocks/gravel were thrown down as some kind of weed or splash control...raking those out makes for quite a work out (she says as she reaches for her ibuprofen)...
i made a list of the materials i need to purchase on the way to the garden in the morning...when i was there before, they did not have all i wanted and now that i see my purchased plantings in place, i am thinking i'll try to add in some golden mops and/or japanese grass...i really like the lime green of the nandina and liriope and would like to continue that color but with an additional texture...

day three...
ah...what a satisfying day...
it began with a trip to the nursery for some more plantings and planting mix...followed by lots of digging, lots of planting and plenty of mulching and watering!
i am very pleased with the results!!
