I have the best job ever!
People might think I am crazy, but I really do love this!
This is a house down the road from us...a busy family with two kids and two even bigger dogs...We are looking to add some privacy (but not too much) to the front porch and some color! Nothing can be too fragile that it can't be stomped on by dogs and kiddies alike!

It was clear that the builder had planted the boxwoods too close to the house and they've been struggling for survival ever since. It was also clear to all of us that we wanted the front bed to curve around the house so we could added some plantings to the side of the porch.
What we stumbled upon was the realization that we want the garden even bigger! Notice the hose line in the picture above!
Now, the new garden will sweep even further to the side...we'll incorporate some square flagstone stepping stones and a specimen planting to the front corner to better feature the house and provide a natural screen between the two houses.

What a transformation!
This project took less than 20 hours and materials came to about $1,000. Our Viburnum was on sale and many of the perennials were also on sale. The homeowner already had a pile of mulch.
The back layer is Delaware Valley azaleas which stay green through the winter and have a huge white blossom in spring...In front of the azaleas are glossy abelia which are also evergreen and are in bloom much of the summer...their fragrance is lovely and will definitely be enjoyed by anyone sitting on the porch!
We were able to re-use the boxwood from the original garden...We clumped three at the entrance to the walkway to make it special...two more are nestled behind the Viburnum on the right .
Speaking of the Viburnum, what a nice little pathway we'll have to the gate! I have not collected the flagstone stepping stones yet but that will really make it special...
In the meantime, we can enjoy the fragrance from the abelias, watch the anemones blow with the breeze and enjoy Fall!

Officially one of my daughters' favorites...
everyone loves this one! the glossy abelia smell so nice when you sit on the porch and the softness of the plantings really soften up all the stone work
