When all else fails...
I understand that most homes do not "come" with window boxes...HOWEVER, I think they should!
What an easy way to make a HUGE impact...
For less than $100 these boxes can get planted with seasonal colors for an instant update...In fact, I think you could almost let the rest of your garden go if you have window boxes...(i said "almost")...

Surprise!
I spotted this cool container on a friend's front step...it was lifeless but held great potential...so I stole it (for just a few hours)
Dressed up for the holidays...
It is so easy to dress up a window box...just grab your clippers, clip a bunch of evergreen branches and stick them in your window box! I'm fond of holly, cypress, redtwig dogwood and a new one: dried up sage -- its the white twig you see below
