the humans moved in...now its time for the plantings to move in!
another great family, another great garden in the making...
this house is the coolest shade of green...makes me think of colorado, especially with the stonework...
as i sang "rocky mountain high" today, i tilled and tilled and tilled the maryland clay, adding 8 bags of compost...slowly the red dirt became brown and i hope to add the plantings tomorrow!
day two...
omg...what would i have done without the tiller?
because of the placement of some underground wires, i could not till the area where the hydrangea was put...ugh, the earth is sooo compacted!
the tilled area in front is delightful to work in (now) and the area along the side of the garage got tilled the old fashioned way...
the homeowners wanted pretty but simple...i think we achieved the goal without being too sparse...the hydrangea will bloom all summer along, it starts off white and fades to a "blushing" white...
the rose is a "knock-out" white rose that will grow quickly to be about 4 -5 feet high, just high enough to provide a nice blooming anchor to the corner...
the boxwood are complimented by gumpo azaleas which stay evergreen and low!
i know this is silly, but my favorite might be the dwarf nandina between the walkway and the garage...i LOVE their texture and they seem a little unexpected...
i'm hoping to work on some containers tomorrow and investigate two trees for the front yard...
